501(c)(3) Guidelines

Nonprofits help make democracy work. Nonprofits have many opportunities to encourage voter and civic participation as part of their charitable missions, so long as it is done on a nonpartisan basis.

The Nonprofit Voter Engagement Network has created materials to help nonprofits understand the range of nonpartisan activities they may conduct related to voting and elections. Our most comprehensive guide is Nonprofits, Voting and Elections. We also have special issue fact sheets and links to the useful resources of the Alliance for Justice and the IRS charitable division. Please contact us with additional questions.
